D5 ATTENDANCE & SEAT TIME:
Expectations
-
FIVE students must attend virtual classes with cameras on during live instruction. Attendance will be recorded following state regulations. If you are experiencing technical difficulties, you must communicate with your teacher immediately.
-
It is imperative that you maintain an open line of communication with your teacher in regards to your attendance. If for any reason you are unable to attend class, contact your teacher.
-
Students who log in after instruction has begun will be marked tardy. It is imperative that students are present the entire duration of instruction.
-
Please provide any documentation for any absence please utilize the FIVE Attendance Excuse Form
Truancy
-
State laws and regulations determining absences and truancy are applicable for our FIVE virtual program. Staff members will follow policy JH regarding continued absences and the following guidelines:
-
When excessive absences become a pattern, the director or his/her designee will oversee the development and implementation of a written intervention plan designed to improve student attendance. Students who do not improve attendance after the intervention plan may be sent back to school face to face.
-
When truancy continues following implementation of a written intervention plan, students could be referred to the family court and parents/legal guardians to the Department of Social Services to address truancy issues as outlined in administrative rule JH.
-
Compulsory Attendance Laws and District 5 policies on school attendance are applicable to our FIVE program.
High School Attendance Guidelines
Please see the video below for important updated information on High School attendance.
While state law and district policy regarding Attendance has not changed, our district's procedures for how we handle attendance and Seat Time has been amended. The major takeaways are as follows:
- Seat time deals with the number of absences in an individual course and determines if academic credit can be awarded.
- Truancy refers to full day absences and is dealing with state school attendance law.
- By law, students are allowed 10 absences in a year-long course and 5 absences in a semester course. Upon the 6th absences in a semester course and 11th absences in a year long course, student's attendance will be reviewed by a committee for the possibility of seat time make-up, regardless of the type of absences accrued (i.e. medical, suspension, parent note, etc).
- Parent notes for illness are acceptable for truancy purposes within the first 10 full day absences, but they do not excuse seat time requirements.
- Medical notes MUST be turned in within 5 school days or an absence will be coded as Unexcused.
